PATENT REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
IN PHILIPPINES

The Philippines, a Southeast Asian nation with over 7,000 islands and 110+ million people, has a developing economy driven by agriculture, electronics, business process outsourcing, and overseas remittances. Key exports include electronic products, machinery, agricultural goods (coconut oil, bananas, pineapples), and major trading partners include Japan, China, and the U.S.

Patent registration in the Philippines is governed by Republic Act No. 8293 (1997), administered by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). For a patent to be granted, an invention must be new, involve an inventive step, and be industrially applicable. The Philippines is a member of the WTO and ASEAN Free Trade Area, boosting trade and investment.

The International Centre for Patent Registration (ICPR) under the Ministry of Economy oversees patent registration in the UAE. Applications can be submitted online, with an option to claim priority for patents filed in treaty-partner states, provided details are submitted within 12 months of the first filing.
