TRADEMARK IN QATAR

TRADEMARK REGISTRATION IN QATAR –
WHAT YOU CAN REGISTER

Under Qatar’s Law No. 9 of 2002, trademarks can include names, signatures, words, numbers, designs, colors, 3D shapes, sounds, smells, and more—if used to distinguish products or services in industry, trade, or agriculture. Marks must have a distinctive form to be eligible for registration.

WHAT CANNOT BE REGISTERED
AS A TRADEMARK IN QATAR

Qatar’s law prohibits trademarks that lack distinctiveness, are purely descriptive, offend morality or public order, imitate official symbols or emblems without consent, misuse state or international insignias, replicate Red Cross/Crescent symbols, use third-party images without consent, or falsely claim honorary distinctions.

For Trademark Registration:
  • Copy of the mark
  • Applicant’s name, address, nationality
  • List of goods/services (in Arabic)
  • Notarized & legalized Power of Attorney (within 30 days)
  • Priority document (if claimed, within 6 months)
  • Commercial certificate (translated to Arabic)
     
For Trademark Renewal:
  • Mark details
  • Applicant info
  • POA
  • Copy of registration certificate
     
For Trademark Assignment:
  • Mark & applicant details
  • Assignment specifications
  • Legalized assignment document (in Arabic)
  • POA
  • Commercial certificate (translated to Arabic)

OFFICIAL FEES 

The Trade Mark filing fee in Qatar is QR1,000. (Qatari Riyals)
